Director, Anthony Rohr

Tenor Anthony Rohr sings a dynamic repertoire of operatic and musical theatre styles. Recent engagements include singing Mr. Snow in Rodger and Hammerstein’s Carousel with Opera North in Lebanon, NH, performing as as a touring artist with Seagle Festival in Schroon Lake, NY, and performing as an apprentice artist with Cedar Rapids Opera in their production of Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte.
Fairy Tale Suite is Rohr’s third engagement with Badlands Opera Project. Previous roles with the company include Jesus in Stephen Schwartz’s Godspell and as King Kaspar in Gian Carlo Menotti’s Amahl and the Night Visitors. He is excited to be back and proud to premiere a new work in his home town.
Taking part in the development of new works is of great interest to Mr. Rohr. Happily collaborating with the creatives behind the productions, he was proud to perform public workshop performances of Kathleen Smith Belcher and Dan Rigazzi’s Baseball: A Musical Love Letter and Robert Carl and Russell Banks’ opera Harmony. Working outside the stage, he contributed his solo voice to studio recordings of Evan Mack’s comic opera Yelstin in Texas, as well.
Rohr is also active as a writer and producer. He is currently a contributing member of Lostwood Media’s song writing team for the upcoming documentary Cowboys and Butterfly Kisses, slated for a 2024 release date. Other original work includes the production of an historically inspired stage-play developed for students during his tenure as an assistant professor at Valley City State University. He is most proud to have written and produced a community theater project in his hometown titled In Secret. The play with music highlights the tragedies and triumphs of former residents living at Grafton State School, an institution in North Dakota infamous for its malpractice and mistreatment of people with intellectual disabilities throughout the 20th century. The show was a celebrated success and inspired significant financial contributions to an area non-profit which provides inclusive modern-day support to community members with disabilities.
Other productions Rohr is grateful to have performed include the role of Jumper in The Falling and the Rising by Zach Redler and Jerre Dye, Che in Andrew Lloyd Weber’s Evita, Don José in La Tragedie de Carmen, Tom Buchanan in John Harbison’s The Great Gatsby.
